Descended from apes, made in God's image

Not long ago I told a friend of mine an interesting possibility I had read here on the Internet- that humans may be hybrids between chimpanzees and another species. She replied that that cannot be, because we are made in God's image.

Immediately I replied, "Of course we are made in God's image- I can see God in my friends!"

Then I said something about how no matter how He made us God can put part of Himself in each of us.

A little bit later I was thinking about that, especially my reply. I had never seriously thought about the idea that we are made in God's image. If I had ever thought of it before it was to think that of course God can make us in His image- He's God, He can look like anything He wants to!

But when someone else brought it up, that was the farthest thing from my mind. My thought was immediate, and clear as day- of course we are made in God's image- I can see God in my friends!

I realized as I thought about my reply- of course that's what it means for us to be made in God's image! I had never really thought except briefly, casually in passing about the idea before, and when I did the answer was clear- of course it doesn't just mean that we look like God, that would mean nothing at all, especially since God can look like anything he wants. It means you can see God in us, if we are our true selves and have not been broken inside, because part of His spirit is in all of us!

I suppose because I was with my friend, who is an especially sweet and kind person, it was especially easy for me to realize that- but of course I know we all can be as sweet and kind as my friend.

Just wanted you to know. Oh- and remember, the spirit of God is in you, too!
