I just came from yesterday reading a comment by someone pointing to all the bad blockbuster movies these days sending the wrong messages (like the Mulan remake, the Wonder Woman sequel and the last two movies in the new Star Wars trilogy) and saying that this is the result of us telling our kids that they are fine just the way they are.
See, we kept telling our kids that they are just fine the way they are, and now they all grew up fat and lazy.
And now they are fat and lazy and make bad movies.
Well, kids, that is why we teach complex truths!
For teaching kids that they are just fine the way they are is better than any other oversimplified substitute!
It is just no substitute for the more complex truth!
Which is that it is okay to be anything you want, as long as you are trying hard to be and do something worthwhile and are trying hard to be the best person you can be.
But that is so complicated!
There is no simple substitute!
Sometimes there is just no substitute for the complex truth!
Telling our kids that they are just fine the way they are is a lot better than what we used to do when we oversimplified what we taught our kids!
Which is that we used to teach our kids that they are worthless unless they are just like President Nixon!
Even if our kids are 'Black' or a girl and there was no way they could be like President Nixon!
The oversimplified truth from the more recent years is probably the best we can get out of an oversimplified truth, and a whole lot better than what we used to teach our kids when we oversimplified what we were teaching them!
There is simply no substitute for the complex truth when teaching Life!
