The Stoics Are Not about Theology and Metaphysics!

The Stoics are about learning to be virtuous and learning how to avoid pain!

The Stoics are not about teaching us about the nature of the Divine!

The original Greek stoics would be the first to tell you that they were not experts on the nature of the Divine!

The Roman stoics, when they talked of the Divine at all, were more likely to quote Plato or Aristotle!

You go to Plato, and Aristotle, and The Bible, and The Koran, and the Bagavad Gita and the Upanishads and the Tao Te Ching to learn of the Divine!

You go to the Stoics to learn virtue and to learn how to avoid pain!

The Stoics are wonderful!

You learn from them how to rid your life of pain and stress!

And they leave you free to get your ideas of the Divine anywhere you want- Plato, Aristotle, The Bible, The Koran, the Upanishads, the Tao Te Ching, anywhere you want!

Christians for two thousand years have been learning virtue and how to avoid pain from the Stoics- learning Stoicism from the Stoics- while learning of the Divine from The Bible and Plato!

The Stoics are not about theology and metaphysics! The Stoics are not about learning about the Divine- except the Divine within our own mind and our capacity to learn!

Sincerely,
