I will take this moment to defend an important movie from a criticism on Youtube.
And that movie is Disney's Zootopia.
If you have not heard of this movie (you probably have), it uses a society of anthropomorphic animals to comment on racism.
Instead of 'black' and 'white', the animals are divided into 'predators' and 'prey'- animals whose ancestors were leaf-eaters, and those whose ancestors ate meat.
And this Youtube video advertises itself claiming that the 'prey' supposedly have a point.
After all, predators kill and eat prey in the wild, right?
Right.
In the wild.
These animals are not in the wild.
These animals have become civilized.
This much is implied in the movie.
It is obvious.
It is the premise of the whole movie.
And it should be obvious what that means.
They have put their wild ancestor's ways behind them in order to become civilized.
Like we have.
We have dogs.
We have sheep.
We keep our dogs, the descendents of wild wolves, with our sheep.
The dogs do not hunt the sheep.
The dogs protect the sheep.
The dogs have become civilized.
And so have the 'predators' in Zootopia.
They no more hunt the 'prey' species than we kill our own pet horses.
And this much should be obvious, since it is the most basic part of the premise of the movie.
And the wild predator instincts are not waiting to reemerge.
In real life we have co-evolved with each other for hundreds of generations.
Scientific studies shows that it only takes three generations for wild foxes to become civilized.
Obviously, part of the premise of the movie is that the animals in the movie have become civilized in the same way as we have.
After all, you can trust yourself to not hunt and kill your neighbor's pet horse, right?
For humans are 'predators'.
If we can be civilized and safe around our own horses, so can they.
And that much, on a basic, almost instinctive level of understanding, is obvious to almost every child that watches the movie.
God loves you!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
