Every so often, the political landscape of America goes through what they call a political realignment.
The Democrats were once strong in the South, from Georgia to Texas, the Republicans were once strong in the Northeast. The Republicans were, 160 years ago, the Liberals.
The last normal political realignment happened about around 1964.
What America's political landscape is going through right now, in 2024, is not a normal political realignment.
This massive political shift has been shifting, and surging, and moving this way and that, for 20 years.
It is part of a much larger thing: the massive mental crisis America has been going through ever since the early 90's.
It is something akin to the fall and rise again of Empires.
The Chinese Empire has risen and fallen and risen again many times for thousands of years.
Empires rise and fall and rise again. The Arab Empire of Islam in lands once Roman.
But in a stable Republic, the next political order down the line can be simply elected into power.
This is what happened in the time of the fall of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Ceasars.
And that was no longer a stable Republic even.
This is what is happening in America- only in a much less painful way than in Pompey's Rome, for America is still a stable Republic.
The new political order is rising alongside the fading Empire.
Only America's Republic is still stable, so this rise and fall, in a massively complex process, plays out in elections instead.
It is far less stressful, as bad as it is, than any other such political transition in history on this scale.
The old political order of Regan and Kennedy and Eisenhower is dying.
Its old American Empire, its old Imperial conception of America, began dying in the massive mental crisis that America has been going through since the early 90's.
A new sense of optimism is rising alongside it.
Right now, that new sense of optimism only exists in one political party, that of Obama.
This is because Eisenhower's political party was in power when the mental crisis reached the government in a massive national crisis on 9/11/2001.
That was when the mental crisis began to overcome the political structure.
The government still functions just fine.
Far better than the Roman government in the time of Sulla and the early career of Pompey.
The political party that was not in power in 9/11/2001 was able to shake off the old, dying order first, to come to a new optimism and hope.
In time a new optimism and hope will come to both parties.
We are still in the middle of a long, massive political transition.
That time will come.
Its surges and struggles have to be allowed to play out naturally.
It will come.
A new hope in both parties and across American politics will come.
It will take time.
It will take time, for the other side of America to heal.
But heal it will.
And then the optimism and hope will come, on their own terms, to their political party and political community as well.
This is what will finally bring back sanity to American politics, because America has too much variety, too much diversity, in ideas as much as anything, to be effectively represented by a single political party, especially in an America long used to having two contrasting political parties.
That psychological healing has to come to the Conservative community, with the help of friends and kindness and not politics, so that Conservatives and Republicans can rediscover hope and optimism on their own terms, and when that happens, that will bring us out of the political crisis.
We'll make it.
The Romans made it.
And they had to fight actual wars.
We only have to fight elections.
We'll make it.
France and Belgium went through far worse between 1914 and 1945.
We'll be fine here in America!
God loves you! Keep up hope, on both sides!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
