First of all, Karen Carpenter. Amazing singer. But a lot more people talk of Karen Carpenter.
This is my tribute to Richard Carpenter, the other half of The Carpenters. One of the most amazing arrangers ever.
One of the most amazing, sophistocated, complexly beautiful arrangers ever, right up with Debussy and Duke Ellington.
And many other things. A great composer of songs. A fine pianist. A great tireless finder of songs.
The man who discovered several great unknown songwriters- Paul Williams, who wrote some of the greatest music and lyrics ever for Jim Henson and the original Muppet Movie, the greatest movie ever made. (Perhaps even above E.T.!)
But above all, the most amazing arranger music has had since Duke Ellington, along with Brian Wilson.
And with Karen Carpenter, an amazing singer, the two made one hell of a team!

And for those who have not yet heard of her, his sister Karen Carpenter, an amazing beautiful singer who makes it sound so natural!
