Free yourself from attachment and fear

The Buddha said to free yourself from attachment to things in the material world that are transitory and will pass away. For all pain comes from attachment to things in the material world, for all things in the material world are transitory and will pass away. The Roman stoics said to not rely or get attatched to things beyond your control- that is, anything except your own mind.

The Buddha especially warned against getting attached to sex, because sex is a very powerful emotion and can hurt very badly.

So, should we obsess on avoiding sex?

No.

No. Because obsessing on avoiding sex is a form of attachment. Obsessing over avoiding sex is being attatched to sex.

Fear of sex is a form of being attached to sex, and it can hurt as bad as anything, because it will force us to think of nothing else and rob us of the most precious thing we have- peace of mind and the power to think good, happy thoughts.

If we are to free ourself from attachment and pain, we must also free ourself from fear of things in the material world. We must free ourself from obsessing over avoiding becoming attached to things in the material world, because that is itself a form of attachment and will hurt us too.

Instead we need to let it go and ignore it. Just let it pass by. Avoid it, maybe- but once you walk away, don't worry about it. Think about it only enough to avoid it- and otherwise ignore it and just let it pass by.

That is true non-attachment.

For true non-attachment means freedom from fear of becoming attached.

And that is true not only for sex but for all things in the material world.

God loves you!

Sincerely,
