Here's my tribute to my favorite painter from the past 300 years at least, and my favorite painter from one of my two favorite periods of European art, Vincent Van Gogh.
And here's my tribute to Vincent Van Gogh's brother Theo.
Theo Van Gogh, who supported his brother Vincent financially through Vincent's entire career.
Theo's blood flows through every painting Vincent Van Gogh made. Without Theo's financial support, Vincent could not have devoted his life to painting.
Theo Van Gogh ranks among the great patrons of art in all history, and among the great philanthropes in history. I'm sure he gave away a larger portion of his money to his brother Vincent than the Medici gave to patronize art. The Medici were swimming in money. Theo had no more than most of us do.
So here's to Theo Van Gogh!
May his name resound throughout history alongside that of his brother!
