Why we love Talking Animals in Movies

Many years ago a movie came out called Snow Dogs.  It was advertised with scenes of the dogs, in a live action movie no less, talking and making wisecracks.

So many of us were so dissappointed to find that the dogs do not talk in Snow Dogs, outside of a brief dream sequence.

We love talking animals.

Why?

Is it simply because they are cute and funny comic relief characters?

That's part of it.

But I believe that there is another reason as well.

One that has to do with sophistocation, complexity, and giving the mind something to think about.

We love something that is interesting.

We love ideas to think about, if they are fun and not boring hard work.

And a different point of view is interesting.

What could be more interesting than the different point of view of a dog that can talk, and think as well as a human- but is still a dog, and still has the point of view of a dog!

What could be more interesting than that?

Especially if you throw in a pig, say, and maybe a frog, and any number of other different types of creatures?

Looney Tunes is more interesting, stimulates the mind more, for having a talking rabbit and a talking duck.

The Muppet Show is more interesting by far for having a dog, a frog, and all kinds of other different creatures, all talking and giving us their unique point of view.

Just because these are comedies does not mean that there is no sophistocation and mental stimulation going on.

Quite the opposite- comedy thrives on mental stimulation!

Why is Chris Rock so popular?  Because he refers to all kinds of interesting social issues and observations!

Nothing makes comedy better than mental stimulation!

Looney Tunes was full of interesting things!

Daffy Duck being turned into a weird walking flower creature one moment, flying a plane the next!

The Muppet Show was super packed with interesting little quirky things to stimulate the mind!

That is why we love talking animals- they have a different point of view, and that different point of view is interesting!

Food for thought!

God loves you!

Sincerely,
