I do it the hard way

There are two ways to learn how to be a writer.  There's the traditional way, which is the easy way.  That is to learn the rules of literary form, things like sentence structure, and to practice them, and to read to see how the great writers use them.

Then there's the hard way, which is to go by feel.

That's what I do.  I go by feel.  I've been practicing it for forty years, all my life.  It's what I am good at.  But I'm sure that it is the hard way.

Still, it's what I'm good at.

I don't know the technical rules of sentence structure.  I have no idea what a dangling participle is.  I go by feel.  I know what good writing sounds like.  If you want to learn to write the easy way, learn the rules of sentence structure and things like that.  But I'm good at going by feel.  It's what I'm good at.  And so that is what I have practiced all my life, in everything artistic that I do.  Especially my writing.

I do it the hard way.  I go by feel.  But it's what I am good at, and I like doing it this way.  And it's what I'm good at.

Just wanted to tell you.

        Sincerely,

                    David S. Annderson

P.S. If you are into personality types, I'm an INFP.  Anyone with the NF and P, ENFP or INFP, will likely be good at going by feel.  N is Intuitive (as opposed to Sensor, someone who goes more by the direct evidence of their senses), F is Feeler (as opposed to thinker), and P is basically improvisor as opposed to organizer.  So if you are an ENFP or an INFP, you might just see how good you are at going by feel as a writer.  But keep in mind, that in general as a writer this is the hard way!

But some of us are good at it!

(I and E are introvert and extrovert.)
