Paying for Quality: This is why the US Military Overspends on its Equipment

I'm one of those people who used to hear that the United States military is overspending on its equipment.

Spending like 30 times as much for things like airplanes than you would need to get something comparable off the shelf.

It's an easy logical trap to fall into.

Thing is, I'm now an experienced amateur historian.  I now appreciate why we overspend so much.

It's motivation for United States companies to produce the best of the best.

The United States military has led the world in technology- responsably (as responsably as flawed humans could be expected to in a messy, sometimes difficult world!)- for generations.  With no end in sight.

The world is so much safer because a responsible government and reliable ally and world citizen has millitary technology far superior to anyone else in the world.

The reason?      We overspend on military technology.

With this motivation, companies like Lockheed develop cutting-edge technology unbelievably well, and make it work incredably well.

I am also enough of a historian to know that America has been a responsible world citizen for the past several generations, with no end in sight, and that the world is safer with the United States to protect it.

We were called on a mission.

We did not create the calling.

History called us.    In 1918 the United States was the only strong unfallen country in the world.

History called us.  We did a very good job of answering that call.

History has called modern China to a different calling.

To not interfere in battle, but be a good international citizen and business partner to the world.

We have our calling, China and India have theirs.

Who knows where history will lead?

And it is my experience as a historian that has given me this insight as to why the US millitary overspends for everything.

We get far more than our money's worth.

We get the best of the best.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my insight as a historian!

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
