About Will Smith and Chris Rock

I am completely against violence.  I really am.

Not that a slap is that bad.  I wish the worst that ever happened to me was getting slapped.

But I can understand where Will Smith is coming from.

Thing is, people like me and Will Smith, we tend to take things personally.

And if he is like me, he looks for the deeper meaning in things.    At least, that's what I do.

And I understand now that Chris Rock's comedy is not meant for people like me.

But perhaps Will Smith didn't understand that.  He is just a talented performer, after all.  Not a philosopher.  It's not his job to have the answers.  It's his job to entertain us.

And when someone like me hears what Chris Rock typically does...

It is demeaning.

People like me, we hear all that 'Black people this, white people that' stuff, and we take it personally.

And to keep from taking it personally, we look for the deeper meaning.

And to be looking for the deeper meaning of life in a lot of 'Black people this, white people that' stuff feels so demeaning and horrible.

Chris Rock's comedy is just not for people like me and Will Smith.

It is not meant for us.

Thing is, Will Smith is an entertainer, not a philosopher.

He did not know that Chris Rock's comedy is not meant for people like him.

That makes it hard to hear it over and over and over for 30 freaking years

And then have to hear it in person!

That is hard if you don't realize that Chris Rock's comedy is not meant for people like you!

And Chris Rock's comedy is not meant for people like me.

I'm not condoning Will Smith's action.

Really, though, it's just a freaking slap.

It's not like he punched the guy.

I'm saying to forgive Will Smith for not understanding that Chris Rock's comedy is not meant for people like him.

That, and I will add one more thing.

Let the small stuff go.

It's just a slap.

There are far worse things in the world than a celebrated famous person getting slapped.

I'm not condoning it.

But really, we should learn to let the small stuff go!

It's not worth it!

Let it go!

Enjoy Will Smith's talent- and Chris Rock's too, if you are the kind of person his comedy is meant for!

Let it go!

It's just a slap!

God loves you!  All of you!  Including both Will Smith and Chris Rock!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
