A Republic Will Never Grow Old

All Empires grow old and die.

A Republic is not an Empire.

A Republic will never grow old.

Don't believe me?

The Roman Empire lasted longer- by far- before falling than any other Empire.

The Roman Empire was founded by a Republic.

The loyalty of the people to their Republic is what gave the Roman Empire so much strength.

Enough strength that, even after the fall of the Republic, the remaining Empire lasted longer than any Empire ever- by far- before growing old.

The Roman Republic did not grow old.

The Roman Republic fell because it ruled a continent. From a city-state.

You had to be present in the city in person in order to vote.

Without a printing press, vote by ballot was not possible.

And a single city is a rediculously small base to put the economic energy- the human energy- of a whole continent, of nearly the entire Mediterranean, from Egypt and Anatolia to Spain.

That is why the Roman Republic fell.

The Roman Republic did not grow old.

The Roman Empire only began growing old many centuries after the fall of the Republic.

The Roman Empire took longer to grow old- after the fall of the Republic in Sulla's time (the real fall of the Republic)- than any Empire in history.

Four and a half centuries after the Roman Republic fell in Sulla's time, in 370 AD, the Roman Empire still ruled strongly from Egypt to Syria to Morocco to Britain!

Six and a half centuries after the Roman Republic fell in Sulla's time, in 570 AD, the Roman Empire still ruled half the Mediterranean from New Rome, from Egypt to Syria to the Aegean!

A Thousand years and a hundred after the Roman Republic fell in Sulla's time, the Roman Empire ruled a quarter of the Mediterranean from New Rome, Constantinople.

That is how much vital energy the Roman Republic had when it fell.

That is how much vital energy the loyalty of the people gave the Roman Republic.

A Republic will never grow old.

And with vote by ballot, no Republic will ever again fall like the Roman Republic did.

And remember, the Chinese Empire was recreated many times! And so were the Empires of north India* and Persia! And even the Empire of Constantinople was recreated once- or, arguably, twice! (Once in the 1920's!) (Ottoman Turkey even built Mosques modeled on the Hagia Sophia and gave the Greek Patriarch a palace in Istanbul!)

If a Republic ever falls, we can recreate it. For the loyalty will still be there.

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson

*The Empires of north India- the Mauryan Empire, the Kushan Empire, the Gupta Empire, Harsha's Empire, the Palas Empire, the Gujara Pratihara Empire, and the Mughal Empire from Akbar's time to Shah Jehan's time! The Empire of Ashoka was indeed re-created many times!

And Persia- Parthian Persia, Sassanid Persia, Abbasid Persia, Buyid Persia, the Great Seljuk Empire, Savafid Persia, modern Iran!
