It's fall 2023 in America. I just read a headline that states that birding needs to have a racial reckoning.
Birding?
Really?
What does birding have anything to do with different races of humans?
I guarantee you, the birds don't care what color your skin is!
And I guarantee you, the birding book in your hand does not care what color your skin is!
Do we have to bring race into everything?
Can't we ever have one persuit where we can get away from obsessing whether we have light-colored skin or dark-colored skin?
To persue what the human mind was meant to persue, which is beauty, wisdom, knowledge, any of these things?
Especially wisdom and kindness!
Come on, America, get over it and let us move on with life!
There is more to life than race!
There is more to life than black people this, white people that!
I'm sorry for the angry rant, but come on!
We were not put on this Earth by God or Reason in order to spend every living moment of our life obsessing about the color of our skin!
Watch birds! Watch the stars!
Learn Buddhism! Study Shakespeare!
Paint! Play the Saxophone!
There is so much we can do with our minds!
But not if we bring race into everything!
Not if we have only that one thing on our mind!
Set us free!
Let us think freely!
Let my people go!
And by my people, I mean the entire human race!
But really, this only applies to those humans in America!
Only here in America do they give a damn about race!
I'm sorry for the rant! I really am!
God loves you! All of you! He really does!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
P.S. This 'racial reckoning of birding' came in because of books on birds written by Americans from the 19th Century from slave-owning families.
But really, if an American from the 19th Century was brought into 21st Century New York City and saw a 'Black' man drive up in a Toyota blasting recorded music, do you really think that they will be thinking of themselves as superior? Or maybe, just maybe, that the 'Black' man driving up in the Toyota was an aristocrat from another planet maybe!
