It wasn't Rock and Roll that made it great serious music!

Time and again people have tried to re-create the great serious music scene that was 60's rock by re-creating the original Rock and Roll explosion of the 50's.

There's only one problem.

It wasn't the Rock and Roll that made it great serious music!

It was the folk, and the poetry, and the blues, and the Gospel, and the Classical and the Modern Jazz that made it great serious music!

Rock and roll on its own can never be great serious music. Rock and roll on its own is only good at two things: having fun and being angry.

Without the folk, and the poetry, and all that other stuff, the only serious music rock and roll can make is angry music! Rock and Roll by itself is really only good at being fun music, not serious music!

And so Punk and Metal and all those others have failed to re-create the great serious music of 60's rock- because they focused on re-creating the Rock and Roll, not the Folk and the Poetry and the Blues and the Gospel and all that great stuff!

If you want to re-create the 60's music, you have to focus on those things!

And maybe re-create the moment Dylan went electric.

Because that was when the Folk and the Poetry was connected to the Blues and the Gospel, with just a tinge of Rock and Roll for variety!

And the Beach Boys added the Classical, and the rockers who discovered Coltrane added the Modern Jazz!

That's what you have to re-create.

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
