Simplicity vs. Minimalism

There's a huge difference between simplicity and minimalism.

Simplicity implies that it contains the possibility of sophistocation within it. Room for advanced thought. A good example is a Basho haiku:

summer grasses

all that remains of great soldiers'

imperial dreams

This is simple, yet it contains within itself a world of thought. Profound philosophy, a statement on the vanity of material things, pictures of the rise and fall of vast empires.

This is simplicity. Simplicity contains within itself the possibility of sophistocated thought.

Minimalism, on the other hand, I am here using to imply something else- something else that implies low information.

No possibility of sophistocated thought.

Like a lot of American popular music these days (2022). A three-note riff, repeated over, and over, and over. You're trapped in it.

This is why most young people these days listen to music before 1980, or Korean music. Or Bollywood music. Or at least 80's and 90's music.

People like me get bored very quickly with minimalism.

But never with simplicity.

Simplicity vs. Minimalism. A world of difference.

God loves you!

Sincerely,
