Westville, Philadelphia born and raised
On a playground is where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
Shooting some B-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys that were up to no good
Said why you listening to this in our neighborhood
'This is one rap song I can identify with here'
They said, 'This ain't Rap! Go home to Bel Air!'
That Will Smith song was the one rap song that I found identifyable! Shooting some B-ball outside of the school, getting in trouble with my Mom... sounds like teen life to me!
But no! That ain't Rap! Not enough crime, drugs, and shootings!
I guess I identify with Pop more!
I didn't grow up in Bel Air. I grew up the son of a hard-working divorced middle-class Mom. I don't need that much money!
I just find hanging out more identifiable than crime and shootings!
God loves you! Listen to whatever makes you feel good!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
P.S. I pray for those who do find crime and shootings and drugs identifiable! Keep your head up and hold onto hope!
