It's 2025. The Youtube algorithm has been bad and broken for 2 years now.
Which is why I thought that I would share with you some of my favorite Youtube channels. That way we don't have to rely on the algorithm!
First of all, some of my favorite history channels:
Metatron- I would trust this guy as a scholarly source as much as, if not more than, any published source! (But both of these guys are fine scholars!)
and Shadiversity- this is easily one of the most fun channels on the internet (although both of these guys are a lot of fun!)
These are mostly medieval European and classical history, and mostly military, but still really great history, great storytellers, and a lot of fun!
But there is another history channel that has a great series of art histories which are as much histories of the wider civilizations as the art, including the best medieval history documentary that I have ever seen.
And that's Waldemar Januszczak's documentaries on the channel Perspective
This includes a great 'Dark Ages' documentary on the whole of wider Mediterranean civilization in the early middle ages, including Europe, the Arabs and Islam, the Romans and Christians, Byzantium, the Germanic 'Barbarian' kingdoms of the post-Roman Mediterranean, and even the Huns!
Second, these are great channels for the philosophy and history of religion, by people who will not be hating on anyone's side:
ReligionForBreakfast- this is from a scholarly point of view
and Let's Talk Religion- this is from a believer who is a religious universalist like me, and a scholar, and a Sufi from Britain (some of the best mindfulness masters are young and from Britain!)
Both of these are great, both for the philosophy of religion and for its history; if you are a skeptic, you will probably prefer ReligionForBreakfast, while if you are a mystic, you will love Let's Talk Religion, no matter what kind of mystic you are- Filip Holm is a religious universalist like me, and he doesn't have a hateful bone in his body!
This is a great channel on the history, ideas, and mythology of Zoroastrianism, for anyone who loves history, religious ideas, or mythology:
Soul Roots
And this is a great channel on Taoist mindfulness, for anyone who wants to have less stress in their lives, by another young mindfulness master from Britain:
George Thompson
And this is Sadhguru, a legendary sage from India:
Sadhguru (yes, this is his channel name)
This is a great Tolkien fan website, for those of my readers who love great mythic stories:
First Timers
This is a great website if you love animals and need something to brighten up your day:
That Good News Girl
This is a great animal website for anyone who loves reptiles or tarantulas and wants to really understand many really fascinating animals (and you really love seeing someone geek out in excitement over animals):
Clint's Reptiles
And finally, this is a great channel with amazing diving videos that hardly anyone even knows about:
Mostly Diving
Hope this helps! These are all great channels!
God loves you!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
