The Fall of the Roman Empire

Historians like Gibbon have been asking the wrong questions about the fall of the Roman Empire.

They have been looking at an Empire that lasted longer than any Empire in history and asking why it fell.

It took longer for the Roman Empire to fall than any Empire in history!

The Chinese Empire did not last 2,000 years!

The Chinese Empire fell and was re-formed many times in that 2,000 years!

Rome ruled the entire Mediterranean for 600 years!

Rome ruled the eastern Mediterranean for over 800 years!

Rome ruled Anatolia and the Aegean from Constantinople for over 400 years more after that!

We should not be asking why Rome fell!

We should be asking why it lasted so long!

And we should be asking why, unlike the Chinese Empire and the Mauryan Empire of India, why Rome had no successors in western Europe!

Why it was never re-formed in western Europe!

And I think that the answer to that is that Western Europe was not its home!

Athens was its home!

Alexandria was its home!

The Greek eastern Mediterranean was its home!

Where it held on for centuries after it fell in western Europe!

And that's where Rome's successors were- the Arab Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and more!

All this time we have been asking the wrong questions about the fall of the Roman Empire.

We should be asking why it lasted so long- and why it was not re-formed in western Europe!

Food for thought!

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
