On the news the president of the NAACP just said that too many of these tragic confrontations between black people and police happen during calls involving mentally ill people, because cops are not trained to deal with the mentally ill

Our police departments should hire experts on mental health to be sent out to deal with situations involving the mentally ill.

The police are not trained to deal with the mentally ill; it is a lot to ask. Police are strained enough as it is.

Police departments should hire mental health experts specifically to be sent out to deal with calls involving the mentally ill

It would be a better solution than to add to the stress put on normal cops by training normal cops for more than they are already are trained for, their job is difficult enough already
