Of course, a lot of us are afraid of spiders. After all, they do have a poisonous bite!
But in all my years of experience, never have I come across a more gentle creature than the web-spinning spider.
I have had web-spinning spiders in my apartment. And they do not bother anyone. They just like to stay quiet in a corner, not bothering anyone.
They would not hurt a fly except that they have to eat.
And the same is true of virtually all spiders with the exception of Australian funnel-web spiders. Tarantulas, wolf spiders, jumping spiders, you name it. All are as gentle as a web-spinning spider.
So this is my tribute to the gentle spider.
