The brain and the mind

The brain is not the source of the mind.

The brain is a computer.  I think we can agree on that.

Our mind is not a computer.

A computer merely follows orders.

Our mind does things on its own.

And yet, if our brain is injured, it affects our thought process.

This does not mean that the brain is the source of our mind.

It only means that our mind is affected by the brain.

That is the nature of our mind.

Our mind is affected by the things around it.

My state of mind is affected by the feel of the warm sunshine.

This does not mean that the sun is the source of my mind.

And if my state of mind is affected by the warm sunshine, how much more would my mind be affected by the very organ that it is connected to my body through?

How much more would my mind be affected by something that it is so intimately connected to as my brain, through which my mind is connected to my very body?

This does not mean that the brain is the source of my mind.

Merely that my mind is affected by it, just as my state of mind is affected by warm sunshine.

And that naturally, my mind is more affected by my brain than anything else- because it is closer to my brain than anything else.

Just like a tree will be affected especially strongly by the soil that it grows in.

That does not mean that the soil is the source of the plant.

That soil cannot grow a plant unless a seed is planted in it.

Our mind is planted in our brain like a plant is planted in soil.  For it is through the brain that our mind is connected to our body.

Naturally, our mind is especially strongly affected by our brain.

Just as a tree is especially affected by the soil that it is planted in.

Kapila, the philosopher from India, tells us that everything is made up of two things.  Purusha and Prakriti.

Matter and Life.

Our mind is made up of Purusha- Life.  But the form that its thoughts take, the paths that it follows in its thought, is shaped by the Matter, Prakriti, that the life is embedded in.

In other words, the brain.

Kapila can tell you so much more about this.

The brain is the Matter, Prakriti, that the Life, or Purusha, is embedded in.

Our Mind is Life, Purusha.

But the thoughts that it thinks are shaped by Prakriti, Matter.

That is, our brain.

Free of Prakriti, our thoughts, our Life, continues.

Who knows what form it takes when free of Prakriti.

But that form is nothing to be afraid of.

But Prakriti, Matter, the Brain, only shapes the path our mind takes in its thought.

Prakriti is not the source of the mind- only the vessel that the mind resides in, like wine in a glass.

Life, Purusha, is the source.

And Purusha remains, taking who knows what form, after its computer, the brain, seeks to function and its connection with the Prakriti is severed.

Who knows what happens to our mind then.

We can dream.  Sweet dreams.    Why should it be bad or fearful?

Our Purusha goes somewhere.  Why should we fear it, when it could be sweet?

Our brain and our mind.

Purusha and Prakriti.

Food for thought!

God loves you!
