A Tribute to Sidney Poitier

This is a tribute to Sidney Poitier, one of the artists that helped to heal America.

Thank you, Sidney Poitier. Thank you for your dignity. Thank you for being a gentleman.

When the historians judge America in the centuries to come, they will tell people that America tried hard to solve our own worst problems.

You were a big part of that, Sidney Poitier!

Some people said that you played over-idealized African American characters.

Of course you did. Your work was a corrective. Correcting the false, flawed images of the mainstream. Just like mine.

Your work corrected the false images of 'Black' people in America, as my work corrects the falsely overly negative view of the world in most mainstream history-writing here in the west.

It is a wonderful thing to shine a spotlight on the wonderful things in the world and examples of gentlemen who are just like the best of us in real life!

I shine the spotlight on the wonderful things. You shine the spotlight on 'Black' gentlemen like Martin Luther King and Barack Obama (and many people who are not famous, including 'Black' people I know!) in real life. There are many people like your characters in the Black church!

You helped to heal America!

Thank you, Sidney Poitier. You will be well-remembered!

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
