A Purpose to Guide my Art: Where I Started

I started as a writer by looking for a purpose for my art.

Long before I realized that I was preparing to be a writer, I was looking for a purpose to follow.

Like everything that I am especially good at, I went by feel.

Searching for a divine light to guide my life, a divine light that, inspired by Jim Henson and Steven Spielberg's E.T., I could feel all around me as a child.

When I began to write, it was because I already had a purpose- and I wanted to show people what that purpose is.

Which is that I wanted to show people all the wonderful things that I saw in the world.

And I believed in changing the world.

And how does art change the world?

In my case, simply because what I believe in ended up in my writings.

But because I am so good at going by feel, this ended up in my writings in a way I believe in.

So how does art change the world and make it better?

In my case, by showing people the good things that are out there

Showing people the possibilities

Showing people what we and our world can be, that is good and wonderful

And then showing people the philosophy that can help us realize it.

So that's it.

That's how art can change the world.

Because if art is to change the world, you need to start with a spiritual direction- and one that is positive, one that is constructive.

And then you have to make sure that the art does not hurt people on its way to realizing its goal.

That the art builds up, not breaks us down.

And so- art that shows us what is good and wonderful, that shows us the possibilities in the world

And teaches the philosophy that can help us realize it.

The realization of that purpose that I found, and followed, by feel from my earliest years, and that, by feel, guides my writing and my life to this day.

God loves you!

Sincerely,

David S. Annderson
