Because they were great!
And to be great is to risk being cheesy!
A sad or angry movie can be good. Really good.
But to be great, something should be happy and uplifting.
America (in the early 21st Century) has forgotten this.
And what happens when things are a little bit too happy, but in a pleasant way?
Most often, they become cheesy.
Because this is the most common way of being a little bit too happy in a way that feels just as good as ideal happiness.
Being cheesy.
A little too happy to be realistic, a little too over-the-top.
Full of joy.
Because a movie rarely can be perfect, especially if it is trying to be great.
And it is better to be a little too happy than not happy enough.
And that's why 80's movies were cheesy.
Because they were great.
Let's imitate them, and be happy!
God loves you!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
