AI can do amazing things.
But an AI can never replace a human artist.
This is why: AI takes existing art, by humans, and modifies it.
For example: an AI can take a couple of dozen Emily Dickinson poems, all in a recognizable style, and modify them in imitation to come up with something that looks like a good Emily Dickinson poem.
But it does this only by modifying existing Emily Dickinson poems.
What imitation like this cannot do is create a new, original style.
As a human artist, you can put your own personal spirit into your art.
An AI imitation cannot do this.
Another thing an AI cannot do is to choose to follow a specific plot.
Say you have a specific story in mind.
You want to paint a composition representing that story, or tell it as an epic poem.
The AI will not necessarily be able to imitate and modify an existing painting or poem to that specific story.
Maybe something similar. But as a human artist, you can plot the composition of your painting in great detail.
As an example, an AI cannot create a historically accurate painting. As a human artist, you can.
What is more, as a human artist, you can choose just what style to write that story in.
You can choose, for example, to paint a historical scene from American history in an impressionist style.
An AI cannot do this. There are no historical scenes in the impressionist style for it to imitate.
If it did, the AI could not make it historically accurate. You can. You can do the research.
But most of all, you can create your own original style.
An AI can never do that.
Not with anything developed from existing (as of 2025) AI techniques, which merely imitate and modify.
It is unlikely that an AI will ever be able to do more than imitate and modify in art, and still do it well.
If you are an artist in the field, and are familiar with the original artist, you will be able to spot the AI art easily.
I cannot do that on Deviantart because I am a writer and not a painter, and a writer influenced mainly by the movies of people like Steven Spielberg at that.
But I once heard an AI-created popular song.
I could tell at once just what recordings were modified to create it.
Anyone familiar with classic rock who is good at music would be able to tell immediately.
The only reason that I cannot in Deviantart is that I am not very knowledgeable in classic painting, or in the techniques of painting.
But you- you, a human artist (or alien intelligence, hypothetically)- can create an entirely original style.
You can create something similar to Emily Dickenson, but a bit different, in subtle nuance, that expresses who you are inside.
An AI cannot do that.
It does not have to be radically different. An AI cannot create originality in nuance any more than it can create something radically different.
You can create your own personal Impressionist style, drawing on Monet and Renoir and Berthe Morisot, but expressing you as a person.
You can apply that style to subjects that Monet and Renoir never attempted.
You can create your own original style, and tell your own stories in it.
An AI cannot do that.
An AI merely imitates.
We still need human artists.
Keep on creating! Creativity is the stuff of life!
God loves you!
Sincerely,
