I was just listening to the great Whitesnake song 'Here I Go again'.
With this song in my head, I went out to have dinner where my housemates were watching television.
On television was a fictional football coach, being hard on his kids for not winning the game.
And as I watched this scene, with the coach being so hard on the kids for not winning, the words of David Coverdale's song played in my mind:
Here I go again on my own
Going down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk this road
And I thought: David Coverdale has been walking that road a long time.
It doesn't matter that he lost a few games along the way.
How many bands put out several failed records before getting their first hit?
How many elections did Lincoln lose before becoming President?
How many playoff serieses did Michael Jordan lose before his Bulls won their first championship?
How many local businesses stay open for years and years, barely making a profit
All the while being the center of a thriving community, perhaps the childhood haunt of the next Truman Capote or Mark Twain, or Tyler Perry?
The winners in life aren't the ones that win the game!
The winners in life are those who stick to it, especially when they know it's important, and keep walking that road anyway!
How many years did David Coverdale work on that very album before it came out?
How many times did someone fail before they got their first hit song, their first hit record, their first New York Times bestseller?
Confucius died with but a few followers, not knowing that his teaching would go on to guide 2,000 years of Chinese civilization!
I was born to walk this road
And like David Coverdale, I'm not going to give up on it!
No matter how many games I lose along the way!
God loves you! Find a dream that matters, and stick to it!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
