This is about what you can do to help people like me with Autism.
And that's one thing, and that's simple.
Whatever you want us to do, you have to tell us.
You want a person with Autism to be quiet because you're trying to pay attention on the phone?
You have to tell us.
We don't know that you want us to be quiet.
Because we're not mind-readers.
We're very good at following directions.
But you have to tell us.
Because we're not mind-readers.
This is why people with Autism are socially akward.
No one ever told us the rules to society.
No one ever told us the social rules.
It's not like it's in a book.
We're expected to just know.
And we're not mind-readers.
That's why people with Autism are socially akward.
Because no one ever tells you what they want you to do.
Being an Autistic person in social situations is like being a blind chess grandmaster in a game of basketball.
You have all these amazing abilities.
But they do you no good.
Because this isn't a game of chess. This is not a game of what you are good at.
It's a game of basketball. And as an autistic person, you're blind. You can't even see the basket.
You can help.
Only you.
If you're around an autistic person, tell us what you want from us.
Because we're real good at following directions.
But we can't read your mind.
It would be such a big help!
Believe me, no autistic person will be angry at you for telling them what you want from them!
Not unless you tell them in an angry way!
We'll be thankful! So thankful! Because no one ever makes it that easy for us!
Because that is what you will be doing! Making it easy for us!
Thank you for the effort! Thank you for trying!
Keep your head up! Be happy, it's not your fault! You didn't know what we need!
God loves you!
Sincerely,
David S. Annderson
