  • Born - April 28, 1758

  • Died - July 4, 1831

  • James Monroe was the fifth President of the U.S. through 1817-1825

  • Monroe was the last founding father of the United States

  • Last President from the Virginian dynasty and the republican generation

  • In 1775 Monroe left college along with his fellow students to join the Continental Army. As Second Lieutenant under Colonel Hugh Mercer, he served in the third Virginia regiment. November 1778 Monroe resigned his commission as a Major. Later in 1782 his political service began.
