Start: February 4, 1899

End: July 4, 1902

It was started by the Philippine Revolution and expanded as the United States took an interest in the Philippine's reasons for the revolution. Once the Spanish had been defeated, the U.S. didn't keep their promise to free the Philippines and fighting broke out between the two countries. Fighting continued until July 4, 1902 after Emilio Aquinaldo was captured in March and his followers dispersed. Fighting did continue afterwards but it wasn't as organized as early conflict. As a result, over 4,000 Americans died and around 220,000 Philippine soldiers and civilians died. In addition, independence for the Philippines was delayed until 1946
