Timeline

-President Jimmy Carter memos authorizing covert action in Afghanistan, June 1979. These were the first Presidential authorizations for Operation Cyclone, months before the Soviet invasion.

-July 3,

1979 was the beginning of operation cyclone

-Operation Cyclone was one of the longest and most expensive covert CIA operations ever. Funding began with $20–30 million per year in 1980 and rose to $630 million per year in 1987.

-September 5, 1983 The C.I.A. gives Honduran military officials "Human Resource Exploitation Training Manual", which shows them how to torture people. Honduras' then uses these techniques, with the full knowledge of the C.I.A. on thousands of people. At least 184 if no more were killed

-August 20, 1985 The United States government and the C.I.A. were involved in a political scandal of supposedly secretly selling arms to Iran. They hoped the sale of these arms would prompt the release of several hostages and allow U.S. intelligence agencies to fund the Nicaraguan Contras.
