The Barbary Wars (Homepage)

Lets look back into the past, the first Barbary War was during the 1800's (1801-1805) which was an undeclared war. Undeclared by the United States, the U.S fought against the North African states of Algiers, Morocco, Tripoli, and Tunis which the U.S had treaties with. This war was under President Thomas Jefferson as tension between the U.S and Barbary States were already high to begin with. This was the first act of piracy. Piracy consists of attacking and robbing ships at sea. This fight took place in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. This first war did not stop the use of piracy as it continued throughout the 18th and 19th century.
