US & Latin America (late 1800's)

In the early 1800's to the late 1800's the United States of America worked on expanding their nation and that lead to interaction with Latin America. Between the years 1890 and 1917 after the treaty of Paris ended the Spanish-American war, and the U.S gained control of Guam, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. These are now known as american territories. Americas foreign policy with Latin America was to be able to limit European military and influence over them. This was expressed in both the No transfer principle and the Monroe doctrine.
