Background

Queen Liliuokalani believed that native Hawaiians should be in control of Hawaii. Americans were "alarmed" by this and revolted. In 1898, America officially annexed Hawaii, which many Hawaiians did not like. This ended in Hawaii becoming the 50th state of the united states.
