Key Figures

Woodrow Wilson-President of the United States during the war, he wanted to keep the country neutral. Unfortunately in 1917 he called congress to join World War I.

Herbert Henry Asquith- Prime Minister of Britain, he lead Britain during the war years. Unfortunately he was no trained so well on warfare and his government was slow in making decisions and creating war tactics.

Georges Clemenceau- Prime Minister of France, he lead the country during the darkest years of the war. His political views were noticed by the President of France and he was called to form a government at the age of 76. His tactics in war were so harsh that he was nicknamed The Tiger.

David Lloyd George- Prime Minister of the U.K, David played a key role in organizing war effort. David also created a war cabinet of five people, he lead although the end of the war.

All of the men above were political leaders during World War I, they all also belong to the Allied power during the war. These men represented Great Britain, the U.K, France, and the United States. In all there were 26 countries under the Allied Power. Originally the Allied Power included only the Russian Empire, France and Great Britain, they were known as the Triple Entente .

The opposing side were known as the Central powers. At the start they were known as Germany, Austria, and Hungary. Later on the Ottoman Empire joined, in 1882 the Empire of Italy joined. The alliance was intended for were for defensive purposes.

Kaiser Wilhelm II- Emperor of Germany, and also king of Prussia. He was one of the main causes of World War I. After the assassination Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, he called Russia and France to War.

Franz Joseph- Ruled the Austrian Empire, when the heir to his throne was killed he declared war on Serbia at the start of World War I. He died during war.

Mehmed V- He was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire during World War I. He declared war on the allies in 1914. Although he lacked knowledge in how to govern.
