Background Information

The Filipino-American War began in February 4, 1899 and ended in July 4, 1902 (lasting 3 years). It began two days before the United States could finish the Treaty of Paris. The Filipino nationalist, led by Emilio Aguinaldo, wanted to earn their independence rather than be run by colonial rulers. Resulting in very one-sided causalities with 4,200 American deaths; 20,000 Filipino deaths; and 200,000 Filipino civilian deaths (violence, famine, and disease).
