Global Affect Fall 2013

At the time of the annexation, Queen Lili'uokalani was the Queen of the hawaiian islands. She was very opposed to the Annexation of Hawaii because she didn't want to lose power. She used the hawaiian islands' funds from the sugar plantation to get money from many countries all over the world. She wanted to take all of the profits and rebuild her empire and her kingdom. Before, President Grover Cleveland was good friends with the Queen so he did not make any moves to annex Hawaii. But when President William McKinley came along, he made many moves to annex Hawaii. The annexation of Hawaii changed the profits that the world made off of the sugar Hawaii produced.
