Timeline

May 1945- Korea is divided into 2 countries after WW2.

March 12th, 1947- At the time, President Harry Truman promises to help any country that is threatened by communism (Truman Doctrine).

June 25th, 1950- North Korea invades South Korea.

June 27th, 1950- United States sends troops to Korea.

October 1950- China joins the fight in North Korea's side.

November 24, 1950- General MacArthur reassures that the UN troops would be home by Christmas, but they were attacked by Chinese soldiers and had to retreat.

April 1951- General MacArthur is fired because of the disagreement with Truman.

November 4, 1952- Dwight Eisenhower is elected president of the USA.

July 27th, 1953- North and South Korea come down to a truce.

In conclusion, the United States did everything in their reach and try to contain communism in the countries it was already present in. For example, the Soviet Union. The United States did not tolerate communism all for the many reasons that individual's rights were abused. Civilians under communism control did not have freedom of assembly, religion, speech, etc.
