Theodore Roosevelt was the president of the United States during the time of the Philippine-American War. On November 9 , 1901, Roosevelt established a naval base in the Philippines at Subic Bay to get control in the region. He also did it because he believed that the spot should become the Navy's Pacific headquarters.

Emilio Aguinaldo was the nationalist revolutionary leader for the Philippines during the war. He was the one who started the fight for independence in the Philippines. On March 23, 1901, Emilio was captured by and American general named Frederick Funston. Emilio officially declared peace with the United States on April 19 , 1901 after swearing on oath of allegiance.
