How It Affected the World

The Peace Conference in Versailles changed the world as we know it. The Allied powers were the countries that attended the meeting, but some of the more important countries were missing. The Central powers were excluded by the Allies. But, Russia was one of the missing Allies. Russia left the Allied powers for the new Bolshevik government. The Allies were infuriated that the Bolshevik government rejected the amends Russia owed to the Allies. Bolshevik also refused to publish the agreements made by the Allies about the postwar period.

Germany had strict disciplinary orders under the Treaty of Versailles. These orders included Germany being required to surrender ten percent of their prewar territory to Europe. They also had to surrender all of their overseas possessions. Also under the treaty, France was allowed to exploit the coal resources in Saarland, Germany. The German Army and Navy had to be reduced in size and several high-ranking officials, including Kaiser Wilhelm II, were to be tried as war criminals. Finally, Germany had to accept full responsibility for World War I and be liable to pay financial amends to the Allied powers.
