The Declaration of Independence

Thomas Jefferson between June 11 - June 28, 1776, drafted the Declaration of Independence. The document summarized the beliefs of the thirteen American Colonies who were then at war with Great Britain over their independence. On July 4th, 17176 the Continental Congress adopted the document, and the Colonies were no longer under the control of Great Britain. They were free citizens in a land of their own. The declaration would prove to be instrumental in Americas future international endeavors as well as its foreign policy. Many would argue that this was Americas first step to becoming the global super power it is today. One fact that cannot be debated is that this document has had a large part in shaping the U.S. to what it is now.
