Attraction to Cuba, Guam ,Philippines & Puerto Rico

    • Philippines: The United States wanted the Philippines for expansion purposes, and trade. At the time the Philippines had things they united states didn't.

  • Puerto Rico: During this time the U.S wanted to be imperialistic. It was used after WWI as an airbase for the navy.

  • Guam: The largest island of the Marianas island chain. It had been desired as a possible coaling station for U.S. Navy.

    • Cuba: It lies 90 miles off the coast of Florida. It exports sugar, tobacco and fruit to the U.S, had been colony of Spain since 1942.
