Declaration of Independence Fall 2013

What is the Declaration of Independence?

The Declaration of Independence was written to declare North America independent from the British colonies. In July 1776, Thomas Jefferson was voted to write a document for their freedom. Jefferson and many other important men come together and formed a committee to create and revise the document. Once the "fair copy" was written, they sent it to Congress for their approval. After a few days, Congress proofread and edited the later called Declaration of Independence. After that day the United States had no affiliation with Great Britain, and declared that the new government will have the right to do things that they wanted to do.

The Declaration of Independence included many people and it was a giant event in North American history. Without the Declaration of Independence, there would have been no freedom, no rights, no independence, or no United States. This event in history has affected everyone in the world.
