Background Information

The Philippine-American War lasted 3 years beginning on February 4, 1899 and ending on July 4, 1902. It began two days before the United States could finish the Treaty of Paris. The Filipino nationalist, Emilio Aguinaldo, wanted to earn independence for the Philippines rather than let it be run by colonial rulers. The war resulted in 4,200 American deaths, 20,000 Filipino deaths, and 200,000 Filipino civilian deaths.
