Key Events

  • The start of the war happened when in June 23, 1914 the Austria- Hungary Archduke was killed, this then lead to conflicts in Europe. Before this though there had been hostile feelings between countries like Germany, France, and even Great Britain, this was just the tip of the iceberg that lead to war.

  • July 28th, 1914- The Austrian-Hungarian empire declare war on Serbia.

  • On August 4th the war begins, Germany first invades Belgium and this is the start of battle. In order to invade France they had to go through Belgium.

  • September 1914, the allies stopped Germany from invading Paris.

  • May 7th, the Lusitania is sunk by a German submarine, in this accident 128 Americans died.

  • In the year 1917 the U.S decide to enter war under President Wilson's call to congress to do so.

  • November 1917, Russian revolutionaries set up a communist government wanting as a way to make peace with the Central powers.

  • November 11th, 1918- World War I comes to an end. At the end Germany came to terms with an armistice; an agreement for no more fighting and peace.
