The Spanish American War was a short war that the United States had against Spain in an attempt to help Cuba. The war lasted four months with 2,446 casualties for the United States. The Spanish American war resulted in the United States getting Guam, Philippines, Puerto Rico and Cuba. Also it gave the United States a new reputation with the powerful countries. The United States decided to help Cuba by entering the war because they wanted to use Cuba for it's rich land and because they could relate to how they felt. The United State also decided to help because it gave us a new alley.
