The Fourteen Points

Wilson outlined fourteen points in response to the Decree of Peace of 1917. The Fourteen Points called for peace all over the world and essentially created the League of Nations. Wilson envisioned countries protecting political independence, and with this Peace proposal, Wilson wanted to live in a world without conflict between countries. The points were accepted and supported by many and some countries were skeptical on the outcome that the points would bring . The proposal essentially caused Germany to agree to stop fighting.

The Fourteen Points

    • No secret agreements should take place

    • There should be free navigation of all seas world wide .

    • No economic barriers of all countries .

    • The reduction of the number of weapons.

    • All decisions regarding colonies should be equal and just to all.

    • Russia should be left to develop their own establishment without the help of Germany.

    • The country of Belgium should have independence like they did before the war.

    • France should have the power to recover Alsace-Lorraine.

    • All Italians should be allowed to live in Italy.

    • Self-determination should be allowed for Austria-Hungarians.

    • People in the Balkan States should be entitled to self-determination and independence.

    • Turkish people should be controlled by the Turkish government and non Turks in the empire should governed themselves.

    • Poland should be independent and have access to the sea.

    • A League of nations should be set up to ensure the political independence of all states.

The Fourteen Points
