U.S. Involvement in WWII

In spite of the fact that the war started with Nazi Germany's assault on Poland in September 1939, the United States did not enter World War II until after Japanese dictator Tojo Hideki decided to bomb the American fleet in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. There were many key turning points for the United States throughout the war such as, the Battle of Midway, the invasion of Italy, the Allied invasion of France, and the two atomic bombs that landed on Japan in 1945. World War II was then put to an end when the Axis powers surrendered.
