Result of the War

The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. On December 10, 1898, Spanish and American representatives signed a peace treaty stating that Cuba was now independent, and the Philippines, Guam, and Puerto Rico were now U.S possessions. Here are some other facts about the end of the war.

  • The U.S paid 20 million to Spain for ownership of the Philippines

  • There were about 3,000 deaths in total, with 90% of deaths being from yellow fever and typhoid
