How it affect the United States

The attack on Israel, threw the whole Middle East off balance. This put both the United States and The Soviet Union into conflict with one another. Reasons being that President Richard Nixon allowed U.S. troops to help Israel soldiers defeat Egypt and Syria. This was suppose to be a easy mission for the Egypt and Syria soldiers. But with United States soldiers by their side that wouldn't be the case. Israel made many counter attacks on Egypt and Syria, which changed the direction of the war very quickly. Israel was not giving up. After closing in a bunch of Egyptian troops, which Israel kept captive for days. The Soviets threatened to take unilateral action to rescue them. Tempers flared both in Washington and Moscow; U.S. military forces went to a Stage 3 alert (Stage 5 is the launch of nuclear attacks). The Soviets backed down on their threat but the damage to relations between the two nations was serious and long lasting.
